1. TECHNOLOGY POLITICS AND THE GLOBAL FUTURE

In this talk, Gry Hasselbalch explores the development of international technology policy from the early 21st century internet governance to today’s regulation of artificial intelligence. She highlights how discussions on the information society and the internet in the 2000s evolved into data regulation in the 2010s, and have now entered a new phase with AI regulation in the 2020s. With deep insights from two decades of work in the field, she presents a detailed account of how various stakeholder, regional and national interests have influenced the global technology political agenda. Through her strong commitment and active participation in shaping global technology politics, she underscores that we are at a historic turning point, where the choices we make today will shape how technologies like AI will impact our society moving forward. The talk draws on her new book Human Power, where she introduces seven human traits for political governance in the AI age, as well as the report The EU Human-Centric Approach to AI: Foundational Elements for a Global Framework.

She highlights seven distinct human traits, such as creativity, intuition, and wisdom, that make us irreplaceable in a technological age.
